About Us

Anesthesiology residency at the University of Florida provides an extraordinary depth and breadth of clinical and research experience for individuals seeking training with a stimulating diversity of cases and research opportunities. Our program is ACGME-accredited for 22 residents per clinical anesthesia year, and we currently have a total of 78 residents ranging from PGY1 to PGY4. We currently offer 12 “categorical” positions for residents to match into their PGY -1 year and 10 “advanced” positions for those matching to begin in their PGY2 year.

Residents spend over half of their time at UF Health-Shands Hospital, which is a private, not-for-profit, 800-bed tertiary care hospital with over 100 ICU beds. UF Health-Shands Hospital is one of the leading referral centers in the Southeast for critically ill patients, and is also a level-one Trauma Center.  The majority of anesthesia training takes place between two main operating suites and the newly opened UF Health-Shands Cancer Center. Residents also train at the 250-bed Malcom A. Randall North Florida/South Georgia VA Medical Center, the outpatient UF Health-Children’s Surgical Center, and the UF Health-Florida Surgical Center for adult out-patient surgery. We also provide critical care services to four distinct intensive care units and have two separate facilities (one UF and one at the VA) dedicated to interventional and chronic pain management. All “offsite” locations are within five miles of the main hospital.
